Dance 'Till You Don't Know: A Purim Ecstatic Dance Ritual (In Person in Marin, CA)

$18.00
Past Program

A person is obligated to become intoxicated with wine on Purim until they do not know…״

–Babylonian Talmud Megillah 7b

Once a year, Jews are invited to shift their consciousness with a psychoactive plant medicine to achieve a state of awareness which melts the binaries of human life–good and evil, heroes and villains, Self and Other–to a point of humility about how things “really are.” How can we embrace this Jewish model of expanding consciousness in an embodied, authentic, and communal way, even without the use of sacred substances?

Join us for a journey of embodied ecstatic movement as we bring in the joy and mindset shift of Purim. We’ll gather to set intentions through ritual with Rabbi Zac Kamenetz, embark on a journey through ecstatic dance with Laura Schiff, and close together with a guided body scan meditation.

Ecstatic Dance – Guidelines

1. We dance barefoot- This allows us to connect more fully with the ground (socks are OK) If you have a physical condition that you need dance shoes, then OK

2. We dance without words- This makes it easier to be in a meditative state No talking on the dancefloor, we kindly request you take conversations to the side so as to allow other dancers to more fully immerse in the experience

3. We dance as we are This is a substance free space, and we ask that you kindly take phone use off the dance floor so keep this area a sacred space, and refrain from taking photos of dancers without their explicit consent

If the cost is a barrier to your attendance, please reach out. We want this event to be accessible to everyone. If you can afford to pay it forward, your funds will be used to support the financial accessibility of this event.
